The MBYLL Mission, Philosophy, Goal and History As the MBYLL (Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League) enters its 22nd season and the sport of lacrosse continues its explosive growth in Massachusetts and across the country; we would like to reinforce the MBYLL mission, philosophy and goals as well as share some history and key reasons why the MBYLL, your league, continues to grow & thrive today.
Our mission is to teach, grow and honor the game of lacrosse throughout Massachusetts by providing leadership, guidance, training and structure to all town programs interested in participating in the MBYLL’s eight game spring schedule and the annual MBYLL Jamboree held each June at the end of our season.
Our philosophy is all players participate equally (i.e. equal playing time) in all games and play on evenly balanced teams based on player skill, experience, size and grade at every age level—U15, U13, U11 & U9—in all MBYLL games.
There are NO ‘stacked’ teams & NO ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams at any level in any town program playing in the MBYLL. NO standings are kept and NO playoffs or league championships are held in the MBYLL Classic League. Our coaches are teachers & role models.
The MBYLL is an inclusive organization that provides a safe, enjoyable, learning experience for all participants; and in an environment not swept up in the pressure filled, win-at-all-cost mania all too common in today's youth sports.
Our goal is for all players, coaches, teams & programs reflect role-model sportsmanship on & off the field while we learn, share and teach the fundamental skills & teamwork required to play the game well.
The MBYLL provides training, guidance, certification and age-specific rules of play for all participating coaches & officials with a particular focus on ensuring player safety & that our games deliver a positive, fun-filled experience for all involved.
Honor the Game
We honor the game by practicing positive coaching, teaching life lessons beyond the playing field and developing a strong community among players, parents, coaches, officials and fans that will last a lifetime.
As MBYLL town members, we continue to improve our lacrosse knowledge & program capabilities each season as we learn, share and teach the game based on speed, stick skills, athleticism and teamwork--and not physical intimidation.
The MBYLL represents 160 towns in Eastern & Central Massachusetts with over 19,000 players in 2nd to 8th grades playing on 950 teams led by more than 1,000 MBYLL Trained and Certified coaches this spring. Below are some of the services the MBYLL provides its member towns along with a few facts & highlights about what the MBYLL, your league, represents today:
